Railroad rails are held to railroad ties with railroad SPIKES.  (For several years, blacksmiths have been making knives from railroad SPIKES.)

In construction, huge nails are called SPIKES.

If you secretely add cachaça to the fruit punch at a party, you have SPIKED the punch and the punch is SPIKED.

Something or someone reaches the top of a gauge or career, it/he has SPIKED.

In American football, some players show their joy by throwing the ball into the ground.  They have SPIKED the ball.

Some rock and rollers SPIKE their hair into sharp points.
