Mensagem:  Intruder, orçamento has two principle meanings in English and they are not interchangeable.

A budget is a plan to use your income to pay expenses and meet other financial goals.  Let's say that you earn $1000 per month.  Your budget lets you pay $300 for rent, $100 for transportation, $50 for clothing, $50 for utilities, $50 for gifts, $50 for entertainment, $150 for food, $100 for miscellaneous expenses, $50 for medical care, and $100 for savings. The budget tell you that you are paying too much for something and you must make adjustments in your expenditures or income.  Or the budget shows that you have excess funds for an expense and you may want to put the unspent money into your savings plan.  THAT is your financial plan, your budget.

An estimate or cost estimate is a statement you request to determine how much a project will cost you.  Your example of the cupboard is excellent!  You do not want the project to begin until you know how much you will have to pay.

Eu preciso de um orçamento para fazer um armário novo.
I need a budget a cost estimate for a new cupboard.
