I've seached in this forum about Festa Junina and found that Dale commented :
|" ||I would leave it "Junina party". Note that it is "party" and not "Party". |
I know it is a Braziliam tradition and to vert it into English is would not represent the same meaning .
But a group of friends of mine is ( or are ?) discussing this term. Some say it would be better translated as June Festival , others as a feast and some desagree that party is the same of festa in this context .
Here are some opinions :
June Festival, porque são várias festas e diferentes tipos de comemorações durante todo o mês, relativas a 3 datas religiosas - pelo menos em princípio, se bem que as festas juninas são mais folclóricas que religiosas .
Aqui na minha escola sempre utilizei expressão "June Feast", por entender party como algo mais restrito, uma festinha mais particular ou balada. Fui ao dicionário da cambridge conferir:
PARTY: a social event where a group of people meet to talk, eat, drink, dance, etc., often in order to celebrate a special occasion
FEAST: a special meal with very good food or a large meal for many people
o google tradutor acaboude me informar "June Festival".
FESTIVAL:1- a special day or period, usually in memory of a religious event, with its own social activities, food or ceremonies; 2-an organized set of special events, such as musical performances
So, let's rethink this term and reach a conclusion ?
PPaulo, would you please proofread my post ? I learn a lot when my mistakes are pointed out .
