Mensagem:  How was the journey?
This is a "closed question", one that can be answered with one or two words.

"Fine!"

"Terrible!"

"It was okay."

What was the journey like ?
This is an "open question", one that requires/requests a description, explanation, etc.

"It was awful.  It was raining when when we left, it was raining during the trip, and it was still raining when we got there.  The car broke down just as we reached Miami.  We spent hours and hours in a dirty garage, the food was lousy, and we were so bored."

"We had a wonderful time.  We went by bus to Colonia de Sacramento, and then we went by buquebus to Buenos Aires.  The river was as serene as a duck pond.

..................................................................
Yes, it is possible to give a long answer to the first question. That is the decision of the person answering the question.  The second question, however, clearly expects a description and not a short answer.
