The word "allow" is used way more often than the word "forbid".
In a single word frequency ranking, the word "allow" came in number 340, while the word "forbid" showed up as 4.750. http://www.wordfrequency.info/free.asp?s=y
I won't allow you to do it, not in my house. (Mother to son) active voice
I'm not allowed to do it in my home. (Son to friend). passive voice
In spoken American English you'll hardly ever hear the word "forbid".
