Mensagem:  Great Dean. Your apologetic tone now sounds better than the previous defying one and your background "explains" the innacuracy of your opinion. What you actually acquired was an English dialect with Portuguese/Spanish interference - so common in ESL classes in the US (and in Brazil!). That's why the use of the word "teacher" sounds familiar to you but not to native speakers. Therefore, our final statement about the remote possibility of the occurrence of the word "teacher" as a form of address in a classroom setting in English-speaking countries should read just like Leah said: - The use of the word "teacher" (in a classroom setting in English-speaking countries) may occur only in elementary school but very occasionally, perhaps only in the first few days of the school year, when the little ones haven't memorized the new teacher's name yet. Never in high school or elsewhere. Rodolfo
