Mensagem:  Actually, Dale, English-speakers of  the inland-southern dialect -which is effectively the modern incarnation of  the Appalachian -are the majority American dialect (according to a recent study I heard referenced. Speakers of Alabama and most of Georgia (and of courseTennesee) fall into that catagory. They outnumber SAE speakers, many of whom (such as yourself, apparently) have never heard the  less common  words of  the southern dialects.

So if by 'cutting edge' you mean modern,  you may be wrong in this case.
