Well, in English I didn´t know for certain, and I am glad to know these details.
In Portuguese dictionaries I read the note "in Portuguese: Mocassim, but the plural is Mocassins." I don´t know if, in their turn, they borrowed the spelling from some English source or from Portuguese (from Portugal).
