Just to add others' experiences of cultural festivals:

I agree with you and all that whenever there is an opportunity to learn about how holidays are celebrated in other countries, we should take the opportunity. I would add that especially in Brazil where those kind of things are usually shown on TV which is, in my view, distorted experience.

Yes, give them the historical/religious background and how children and adults can enjoy this Celtic festival and let the children have fun. In some places they use the opportunity for cultural awareness in schools and communities and even fundraising. You can give them ideas for baking cupcakes and popcorn and play games like Dale suggested.

Both my children loved Halloween in the States. They couldn't believe that adults were giving them so many sweets! And, yes Sid, you'll always hear horror stories, but that's how it's nowadays. I am always for school parties where parents and teachers are involved to widen children's view of the world – it can give them a feel for the global community in their own time and experience.
