Assunto:  Like to do sth vs like doing sth
 
Mensagem:  If you say - I like doing something - it is just a normal statement about the enjoyment associated with an activity

If you say - I like to do something - (for whatever reason) an element is introduced into the phrase with a sense of 'because it should be done', 'because it is proper', 'i feel that it needs to be done.'

As for why or whether this is an unwavering and universal feature with all verbs in all mother-tongue regions ... let's wait and see!
