Mensagem:  Fran, I am going to be laughing for days.  You are a genius for thinking of "to wind down".  It never would have come to me.  It would have been nice if the post had given "Down the weed" in context.  Even without context, you probably have solved the matter anyway.. 

"To down" exists, but it usually means ¨to drink, eat or swallow¨".  (I downed two beers and three sandwiches.  I downed the pills without water.)  I have not heard it used to mean "to smoke".  "The weed" could mean "the marijuana". 

No, your answer sounds logical to me.
