Even the US most stores do not particularly like to deal with "layaway" because it clogs up backrooms, and then store people have to go through the hassle of finding the item in their backroom.
But due to the tightening up of the credit market in the US since mid 2007 to now, some stores are reconsidering "layaway" as a healthy option to boost sales up.
