Do you guys study linguistics, or maybe phonetics?
I have been in the United States for over 10 years. I already spoke English before I moved from Brazil to the US. I am an English teacher in the United States.
I'll tell you both that neither my native speaker friends nor my colleagues at our ESL center would be able to answer your question without doing some research.
But if you both are linguists than that's OK I guess to dig deeper into some aspects of the language, although I don't see them as useful because people do have different accents - even native speakers.
