Note that there are two different meanings for this idiom.
(1) If I make a point of exercising three times each week, I have made it a priority. She made a point of telling everyone that I had failed my driving test. (She made it a priority to...)
(2) If I show you a photo of Mount Everest, I am illustrating my statement that it is going to be difficult to climb. He brought along a handful of documents to help to prove his points. (He brought along a handful of documents to help to illustrate....)
