I know we've been here time and again on this topic about dating and relationship, but today, looking up the word steady I found out that one can use steadies as "The person whom one dates regularly, usually exclusively."

So, does the word steadies mean namorado(a) as we have in Portuguese (someone who you date regularly, yet is not formally engaged)? And if so, how could I use it?
