Mensagem:  I don't recall the name of the document I was given in California years ago.  In all probability, the name changes from city to city, county to country, and state to state.  If you say "record bureau clearance", or even "a statement of good conduct from the police department of XXXX", the reader will understand.

I've seen thousands of "record bureau clearances" as I spent 30 years working for the criminals courts.   In essence, it is a "rap sheet", a list of arrests that are usually confined to that state.  Some prosecution information is given, but it is often missing must be obtained through the local criminal courts system (called "felony records" or "misdemeanor records").  It is much less efficient than television would want you to believe.  But in my case, Brazil wanted a statement that I had not been convicted of a crime nor did I have any pending cases.  As I recall, I was given a very simple form stating that I had no known prior record of convictions.
