   He was involved in defamation.
   He has been involved in defamation.

 


   Grammar-wise, it would not be wrong; it´s what you asked for. But the natural way, for me, would be "he was defamed/he has been defamed" it says the same thing and rings more natural.


   Passive voice is another matter, thus in the passive voice would be "He was defamed by...somebody/something"   

    ex: He was defamed by the report.

 

 

   Nevertheless, I have my doubts if your question was that clear as you claim. Or is it me?
