Hi Vallezi,

 

Welcome back! In my opinion, people from SLC speak as clear as water to me. I’ve met a lot people from Utah and I never had a problem.
Maybe you just needed to spend more time with them.

 

To your question, honestly, I don’t know if there’s a rule or usage recommendation for that. Personally, I don’t like to use
more or less. For some reason doesn’t sound good to my ears. In some situations it fits better then “so so” for example,
“Do we have an agreement? Well, more or less” again, I would say something else.

 

Most of people here in Canada say it a lot. Another thing is, “same all, same all” I can’t say that…I’d rather say, “all the same” or “same thing”.

I think you can play safe with so so and play by ear when you think that wouldn’t fit well.
