(You think she had cried in the office, but she is not crying now.)
b) My mom and dad have lived in Brazil, England and France.
(Maybe they still live in one those countries, and maybe not.)
c) My mom and dad have been living in Brazil, England and France by their third year of marriage.
(The current sentence means they are still living in those three countries.)
(My mom and dad had been living in Brazil, England and France by their third year of marriage.= They once lived in those three countries, and possibly they still do, but maybe they live in a fourth country.)
d) My mom and dad had been living in Brazil when they had my older sister. * Could I also use Past continuous? but I don't see interruption in the action.
had been living = were living
e) Peter had a car accident! He has been in the hospital since last week.
(And he is still in the hospital.)
