If you are not getting something in return, how can it be a deal? A contribution, yes. A gift, yes. But a deal, a transaction?
If you agree to pay someone $30 per month to tend your garden, you are paying and he is working. Your part of the deal is the payment of $30 per month, and his part of the deal is taking care of your garden. You pay and he works. He works and you pay. You don't pay and he doesn't work. He doesn't work and you don't pay. That is a deal. That is a transaction. In return for your money you are getting his work.
