Do you know a recovering alcoholic? Do you know someone who has overcome a drinking problem? Do you know anyone who has had a problem with alcohol? (You cannot say "ex-alcoholic" because the condition does not disappear. Recovery is a lifelong process. An alcoholic does not attend a program, becomes "cured", and then starts over again from ":zero" as if he or she had never had an alcohol problem. If a problem existed in 2001, it probably exists in 2011 and great attention must be paid to it or it will affect the person again. The same could be said of heroin, cocaine, etc. A common expression is "recovering alcoholic". (Around 1980 I became very interested in alcoholism, and I wrote several pieces about alcoholism rehabilitation programs. It affects about 10% of the population.) |
