(1) We live in a wonderful world. Give me a glass of water. I need a shirt. (2) We will have bad weather this week. I see water on the floor. Do you want sugar in your coffee? Do you see anything that the sentences in (1) have in common? We can count worlds, glasses, and shirts. That is why we use "a" in front of them. How about the sentences in (2)? We cannot count weather, water or sugar. Therefore "a" does not go before these nouns. |
