Makes sense, Orlando. Each case has to be dealt in different ways, tough.
In my case I tought that ''alone" does the trick (or almost), in Portuguese would say "somente no mês passado" certainly the author did intentionally .
Doing so, he don´t want you thinking about only this month span, not in this particular case.
Also, "in the last month" could go with both tenses, depending on what comes after or before, if it focuses on the result or the action.
To illustrate the point, some examples I took from the Web:
Nearly a third of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s enforcement cases in the last year took aim at Ponzi schemes, cases that collectively totaled $279 million. The agency filed or won five cases in the last month alone.
(That is, the action [of enforcement] is the focus here. So, he didn´t choose "has filled or won" instead of "filled or won")
Congrats go out to Danny B for earning the title of athlete of the month for July!!! In the last month alone Danny went from 22% body fat to 16%… And this is adding to his incredible progress over the last three months. Hard work is paying off and he is getting NASTY these days. Keep up the good work!!!
(He highlights the action again, not the result. In the very same example he could decide to focus on the result, but he didn´t.)
BT and MLC Superannuation Customers Experience Largest Increase in
Satisfaction with the financial performance of BT (55.3%) and MLC’s (53.6%) superannuation has experienced strong growth since August 2010, improving by 10.2% points and 8.7% points respectively against a market wide growth of only 1.5% points to 52.9%. In the last month alone, BT has shown an improvement of 5.5% points in customer satisfaction. These are the latest findings from the Roy Morgan Research "Superannuation Satisfaction Report", which is based on interviews with over 30,000 superannuation members per annum.
(The author clearly is interested in taking in more and more investors, so the result is the focus.)
No Bullying sign - School in Racine, Wisconsin In the last month alone, at least four youngsters have killed themselves due to bullying from peers and, sometimes, adults.
(ditto, just like above, the author is interested in convince people not bullying others, so he highlights the result.)
And, Aman, when it comes to languages be always ready to such "catches", hehe. You know, Portuguese have plenty of them too.
That means that you are going to a new level, and that you are learning!
Let´s wait more comments, maybe there are other views, improvements, or even I am missing something.
