Mensagem:  Found this, but not enough... it may seem silly, but it means a lot for some data I have been collecting on vocabulary learning.

  • L1 speakers of English can generally use about 1000 different words by the time they start school aged 5 years old.

  • About 2000 words may be enough for general social purposes (even for adults).

    3) Typical university graduate 

    ~20,000 word families (Nation, 2001)

    4) How many words does a non-native speaker know?

    „ Many adult learners of EFL know less than 5000 word families
