Costa Ricans crack up when I tell them about Ford's mistake in Brazil. What a marketing blunder! But Chevrolet had a similar problem with the Nova. "No-va" (não vai) in Spanish speaking countries. I heard of a Japanese manufacturer of catheter tubes who wanted to market them in the USA in a variety of colors under the brand "Happy Cats". No-freaking-way! I can't imagine anyone wanting anything but a clear plastic catheter tube. And "Happy Cats"? Get real! Speaking of Ford's fiasco, years ago members of my Lions Club were going to Ensenada (a Mexican port 100 km inside Mexico) for the weekend. They told me we were spending the night in La Pinta. La Pinta? That's Mexican slang for "the prison"! When we arrived, I was relieved to see we were at La Pinta...Hotel. That's "Pinta", as in the name of one of the three ships used by Columbus during his first voyage.
