Good to hear from you,
That's a great city. I've heard that Salt Lake City (Utah in General) has a nice and clear English accent.
When I first came to Canada, I went straight to the ELS program. But it was a waste of time and money. I was so disappointed that I gave up during the second month.
I was quiet and very selective at school. I would spend most of my time talking to the receptionist (Canadian), and one of the teachers (Charles also Canadian). The students were horrible..50% Chinese with poor pronunciation skills, 25% around the world and the last 25% Brazilians. On my first day a Brazilian girl who was there to plan parties only, asked me where I was from and I told her "Iran".
I used to live in a Elderly home or Senior home if you will, and there I met good people who helped me with the English. During three months I was studying by myself. And the beauty to study here was to learn something new and go outside to try it. I enjoy every second of Canada. Generally speaking, Canadian people are patient when they see you struggling with the language. The only bad news is the weather! -40 in the winter :(
