LINGUISTICS & CULTURE

I found fish names in forums, fishing sites and those of cuisine.
I didn´t find all kinds in a single place, kinda dictionary or glossary of fish names, except for the fishbase maybe, but then this one is a little academical...
Tilápia, peixe-prego e tucunaré
Tilapia fish (also known as Saint Peter´s fish)
Peixe-prego - bramble, sleeper and dogfish sharks (the Portuguese one) the Brazilian "Peixe-prego" would be snake mackerel (and the poisonous one, if memory serves me well). That is, there are two distinct species, depending on the country.
Tucunaré - peacock bass (in the US) but in is also known in Hawaii as Tucunare.
As a bonus:
TAINHA - MULLET
NAMORADO - SANDPERCH
Pacu, Piratapitinga and Tambaqui are of the same family, what changes is the size, a fisherman won´t mistake one for another, but a layman has to be cautious when he or she is going to buy it, the seller may pass one for the other.
