"Tilapia" is commonly used in California.
Something to keep in mind is that there are going to be many fish in Brazil that do not exist in the USA, and vice-versa. I used to say "bagre" for "catfish", but apparently they are SIMILAR but not the SAME.
As kids, we would fish for trout, bass, bluegill, crappie, and perch. I saw a lot of carp, but I do not know of anyone who would eat it. (Too many bones. Scavenger fish.)
In ocean you could find tuna, tarpon, mackerel, sailfish, etc.
