The idea is just that : We had just chosen a ring when a man with a gun came in.=> First we chose the ring and afterwards the robber came in , so I can conclude that had just chosen is correct .
for the first sentence I ‘d like to know why you used simple past if the second sentence is also in the simple past and the first one had occurred before the second one , so why past perfect can’t be used.?
