Hi, Would anyone be kind enough to tell apart "whether.. or" from "either..or"? Does puNctuation interfere? Should a comma be inserted before the first blank so we could use the latter pair? EXAMPLE: "You'll be in dire straits _______ you stay _______ run away." (quer...quer... X ou...ou...) What do you think? Between them, which option is the better? Kindly, J p.s.: As far as I know, in sentences like: "I wonder whether you trust God or not", the conjunction "either...or" makes no sense, and replacing "whether" with "if " is incorrect because the correlative conj. "if...or" is ungrammatical. In Portuguese we label it as "conjunção condicional (if) / conjunção integrante (if/whether)" Please, help!!! |
