EMT is short for EMT-Basic, or EMT-B, and refers to a technician who has less training than an EMT-Paramedic, often simply referred to as a paramedic. EMTs and Paramedics both provide care for patients in the ambulance before they arrive at the hospital.

Responsibilities Basic life support, providing patient care, driving the ambulance. Basic and advanced life support, managing patient care.
Medication training Can administer oxygen, glucose, dextrose, ASA, nitroglycerine, sabutamol, ipratroprium bromide, epinephrine, glucagon. Including oral, IV/IM/subcutaneous routes. Trained in use of 30-40 different medications to keep patients breathing.
Restrictions Cannot give shots (with exception of epinephrine) or start intravenous lifelines. EMTs in Canada can perform IVs and use advanced airways, along with 3-lead cardiac monitoring. None
