When you see someone for the first time, then you MEET him. That´s why you say "nice to meet you". (meet here means "conhecer", but it´s used to talk about meet that person for the first time. Then you go to the supermarket, you may "run into" (emphasis on the "by chance/by accident" in contrast with "by design" (de propósito) him. You could also see (past action - saw) him (without any emphasis on the "by chance" or by design thing, you just saw him (let´s call it a neutral emphasis) the person just saw ("viu aquela pessoa lá" in the sense of "encontrou" as in Portuguese as well). |
