Wait on - generally means the action a waiter do, that is, to serve someone as attendant at a table, etc... Anyway, it can be used with the meaning of "wait for" someone as we know, mainly in spoken English or written about (refferring to) spoken English. Or still, in certain regions of the U.S., albeit some people don´t consider this use as being standard English.
