"International standards for television and video.
Australia and most European countries [also Brazil] use the PAL standard but DVD player standards for the United States, Canada and Japan typically require DVDs that are in standard NTSC format.
The chart below provides a general outline of video standards used in different countries. Check the chart below for a guide on the video standard in your country and choose the format for your tape accordingly. (Note: Typically countries that use the SECAM format have DVD machines that can replay tapes in PAL format, but compatibility will depend on your video and tv equipment.)"
