In Portuguese the verb left can be translated into "depart" (as in "the airplane had already departed.") The airplane having left means that it was already a departed flight at the time.
It could mean "leave" a place, as in "leaving the town/leaving office (at 5 PM)" etc.
Sometimes it means "esquecer": Oh my god! I left the key inside the car!
