I think that, concerning present perfect, the explanation is that we do not have this verb tense in portuguese. So, it is not easy to understand and, as a consequence, not used. Another possibility is that, as difficulties increase, the language tends to be not so concrete and more and more abstract. Abstract issues are more difficult to deal. What do you think?
