Dear Jose Roberto,
The color (complexion) variation and racial admixtures is the same in the U.S. as in Brazil. However, the racial categories are less FRAGMENTED than in Brazil. There are pretty much only four racial categories: BLACK, WHITE, ASIAN and NATIVE AMERICAN.
Comparatively speaking, the BLACKS have an awesome political clout. This, as I said, is greatly due to a huge amount of otherwise "Pardo", "Mestizo" and other "funny" categories, who collectively and proudly classify themselves as BLACKS. Consequently, their relatively great numeric political clout is a reality.
IT IS ALL ABOUT POLITICS.
