Mensagem: | Jose: Pat's description about the term "redneck" is quite accurate. I thought it was interesting that you asked about this term at this specific time. It just so happens that at this very time, I am exactly where the term was invented-the deep south. As a matter of fact, all the major racial terms, both derogatory and amuzing are almost always invented in the southeast. The north, on the other hand, pretty much emulates whatever the south starts. Also, as pat said, these terms can be taken offensively at times. The only time they're not taken offensively is when the person saying the term is a GENUINE friend and of the same racial and socio-economic background. In any other time, they almost always cause some discomfort in the receiving end. |
