Mensagem:  (1) "I was burned by my friends." =
"I was cheated by my friends."
"My friends stole something (things) from me."
(As vezes se usa para dizer "to have a bad experience". - "I was in love once, but I got/was burned; she left me for my best friend.")

(2) "I was left to the wolves." = to be without help, training, advice, etc.
"I was left to do the job without any help, training, advice, support, etc. It was sink or swim."
"I was new on the job and nobody told me anything. I had no idea what I was doing. The boss left me to the wolves."

I hate to leave you to the wolves, but I have nobody free who can spend time with you. Do the best you can.
