Mensagem:  I agree with Johannes, the comparisons don't mean much unless couched in per capita terms. Nevertheless, help is help in absolute terms. Those in dire circumstances don't care where it comes from or whom is giving how much. There is a well-known phenomonen in charity, that is that poorer people tend to give the most measured as a percentage of income. The scrabbling prosperous and well-off and highly-consuming mass of middle-americans are too busy trying to make the payments on all their junk to be able to give much. The very secure and truly wealthy give a great deal more, often as much for tax purposes as for compassion. They give a lot in absolute terms, but critics can and will say that it isn't a large percentage of their un-earned incomes. But like I said, the desperate don't care, it's just haggling between the hypocrites and the lucky in life........
