Everything that Dale wrote is absolutely right. Originally, however, a "lampeão" is a gadget, mainly in the past used to light up ambiences. It works with fuel oil and the power of the flame it makes can be regulated by a kind of bottom. The flame is covered by a glass with a hole at the top.
