Mensagem:  I grew up in Yokohama, Japan. When I was eleven we moved to New Jersey. My cousins had a huge lake and several streams next to their farm. They gigged frogs with long poles that had a barbed prong on the end. They used the same poles to catch flounder at the beach (the flounder would come towards the light of a flashlight and then become vulnerable). I never did it but just watched. For me the word "gig" is pronounced with a hard g. A gig is a barbed prong, a small boat used to taxi to and from ships at anchor, a date to play music or a two-wheeled one horse carriage. A jig is a device used to hold and cut metal. It's also a variation of the word gig when describing a fishing hook with a spoon shaped piece of bone or metal attached for drawing through the water. A jig is also that screen box device used to separate metal ore or gold (like the sluice box seen in movies about the gold rush). Most people know the word jig as that dance in triple rhythm where people circle around and jump up clicking their heels. It's also a prank ("Okay guys, the jig's up. Drop the water hoses and get back to pulling weeds, that's what you are being paid to do.") It got down to thirty degrees Farenheit last night but our lake didn't freeze. It never has as far as I know. I just said that in the other post to see if anyone would respond. Mark Twain or someone like him wrote about the noise in the winter freezing until spring.
