Mensagem:  *** CR, what was Abraham Lincoln really like? *** Sorry Dale, I don't go quite that far back in time! Anyway, poor Lincoln was shot a dozen years before Thomas Edison came up with his first recording tinfoil cylinders! I DO go back to the days of "shellac" disks spinning at 78rpm. Sound quality was bad and they were quite brittle and breakable. The vinyl, microgroove, 33 1/3 rpm LPs invented in the late 40's were an enormous improvement, although the 78's stayed around through the 50's. For a fascinating outline of Recording Technology History see http://history.acusd.edu/gen/recording/notes.html. (It covers from Edison's 1877 invention to Jan. 11, 2005 when Apple introduced the iPod Shuffle solid-state music player!) Be well, and happy listening! CR
