I´m not sure I understood the difference.
Let me think of one situation when you are on the ground.
You never actually leave the ground; all you do is point your head toward your feet and roll over (your body forming a ball or shell): would that movement be "somersault"
2. "pirouette": I guess it would be a "pirueta" in Portuguese, isn´t it?
