Fires and smoke cause damage to the lungs, it's extremely dangerous work and injuries are common, firemen see lots of burn victims that can leave them feeling helpless and depressed, and they may re-fight fires in their dreams. She took a toll on me. I was crazy about her, but she constantly broke my heart and made me feel like dirt. His studies took a toll on him. He always had his nose in his books, and he missed the fun things that a young man should be able to live, the personal relationships, the trips, the parties, the whole experience of being young and without responsibilities. His studies robbed him of many pleasures. The storm took its toll on western Argentina, leaving destroyed houses and hunger wherever it left its mark.
