To use Breno's example:
This is what I like most: a glass of beer, besides that I won't say no to a glass of wine.
The meaning gets across with or without the accent on that.
A case of tit for tat?
Maybe I wasn't very clear in my explanation. Sorry about that.
Ex: "Beside this paper, we have another one due tomorrow"
I use "this" because "paper" comes after.
Ex: We have to finish this paper today. Beside that, we have another one due tomorrow.
I use "that", because "paper" comes before
