Mensagem:  To blow ones brain's out is FIGURATIVE speech, unless it's meant LITERALLY, which it obviously isn't since the guy is still alive. Overall it means that he was overwhelmed. As for the pronoun question, either one is Ok. However, nowadays, most people tend to choose /their/ instead of /his/. This is just a direct result of the feminist lobbying that has been going on ever since the so called /women's movement/ got entrenched in early 70's. The argument is that by using the pronoun /his/ instead of the sex neutral /their/, that one is either being deliberately or subcounciosly sexist. And given that Political Correctness is en vogue nowadays, one is always encouraged to use the sex neutral /their/ instead of the sex biased /his/. The choice is still yours to make -Miguel Vieira
