Mensagem:  "To wipe up" refers to actually cleaning up a mess with a rag, towel, etc. The "up" generally refers to soaking up some kind of spill. ex. "Hand me those paper towels. I'm going to wipe up all the milk the baby spilled." "To wipe" doesn't necessarily have to do with cleaning something up, although it often does. One can wipe his/her feet before entering a house. One can wipe crumbs off a table. One can wipe grease of his/her hand.
