Mensagem:  At least in California, telephone companies are providing interpreters. I worked for the Probation Deparment for 30 years. Our office was next to the courthouse, and for years we had access to court interpreters. About a year ago this changed, and the Probation Department started using the telephone company. During an interview, the "speaker phone" would be used and a three-way conversation would take place: officer, defendant, and interpreter. The police in the Los Angeles area has used this system for years, but they do it over the police band radio. More than 80 primary languages are spoken around Los Angeles, so you can imagine the need.
