Mensagem:  We usually say "got back" for a test. The reason is that the student turned in the test to the teacher to be graded/corrected and then the teacher gives it back to the student for review.

I got back my English exam and was happily surprised to see my grade.

John got back his term paper and it had so much red ink on it that we thought it was bleeding!! The teacher told him to make the corrections and turn it in again for another chance at a passing grade. He sure is lucky because many teachers would have just failed him.

We got back our income tax refund yesterday. Today we shop!!! (The tax declaration goes in to the government like a student handing in a test or a paper and then the refund is given back to the citizen just like a teacher giving back the correted test or paper.)
